Mr. William Rice(米威廉), a former missionary of the Southern Presbyterian Church, USA, to the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, died on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at the age of 67 in Atlanta, GA.
He had served in Taiwan from 1963 to 1973. Mr. Rice’s first assignment was as the Business Manager for the Southern Presbyterian Mission and treasurer of the General Assembly in the General Assembly Office. Later on he was the Hospital Administrator at the Chang-hua Christian Hospital(彰化基督教醫院) from August 1968 to June 1973. He was a great asset to the hospital in their development of human and financial resources and building the extensions to the hospital.
After returning to the U.S. in 1973, William Rice first worked with the Division of International Mission of PCUSA, then as the Executive Director of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Georgia. He was best remembered in his work with the Division of International Mission as being a real friend and `encourager`. From 1987 until his retirement in 1996, Rice was active in First Presbyterian’s mission programs in Haiti, and through his board position at the American Leprosy Mission and Children’s Cross Connection, an organization that helps underprivileged children from the Caribbean and Central America.
He is survived by two sisters, one brother, his wife, two sons, two daughters-in-law and four grandchildren. Those who wish to contact the family may write to:
